Topography: Arcuil (Arkle) reimagined, (SOLD)

oil on canvas,
100cm x 100cm,
Iain White, 2017,
£465

Unlike No. 6 entitled ‘Landscape Pattern and Process that seeks to go beyond the mere description of form and hint at process this work unashamedly explores the representation of landscape form as an art work.

Instead of using that artists’ slight of hand, perspective (linear and/or atmospheric), to translates the three dimensions of landscape on to the two dimensional picture plane, it enlists the tools used by the cartographer to solve the same problem. In this case contour lines of equal elevation are combined with relief profiles along a succession of transects aligned at right angles to the north northwest trend of Arcuil.
