In Easter Week, 1941, there were two heavy raids which inflicted further massive damage on the city, hitting historic buildings like St Mary's Hall, several churches, and Coventry's industrial capacity as well as the Coventry & Warwickshire Hospital

It was during the first of these raids that almost all the buildings at King Henry VIII Grammar School were either burnt out or levelled. Fortunately, no loss of life was suffered at the school. However, the events of April 8th/9th, 1941, were a disaster for the school from which it took several years to recover fully.

I became a pupil in the Junior School in 1947.
