Firemen seen here fighting the fire at the Queens Hotel in Hertford Street, Coventry on the 15 November. Subsequently the decision was taken to blow up the building to prevent the fire spreading to the Post Office following the previous nights air raid. The painting is based on a famous iconic photograph that was widely used at the time in both local and national papers. It has since appeared in many publications on the Coventry Blitz.
