Northern summit of Arcuil (Arkle),

charcoal and soft pastel on paper,
75cm x 50cm (framed),
Iain White, 2015,
£285

The curve to the east of the northern part of the Arcuil (Arkle) summit ridge is seen here from the southern summit above Coir Uairidh and looking across the spectacular corrie of Am Bathaich cut through the Pipe Rock to the Basal Quartzite of the Cambrian Complex.

In the flat floor of the corrie is exposed the plane of the basal thrust which moved the Cambrian strata northwest over the Lewisian Gneiss on which they rest unconformably.

On the southwest flank of Arcuil (Arkle) both this unconformity and the piled up imbricated Cambrian strata riven by reverse faults are displayed very clearly (No. 2)
