MOONLIGHT SONATA Exhibition, Coventry Cathedral
84th Blitz Anniversary Commemorations, Coventry Cathedral, 2024
04/11/2024
Coventry Blitz commemorations: Thursday the 14th of November marks the 84th anniversary of the Coventry Blitz of 1940, a night which saw devastation across Coventry and saw the destruction of the Cathedral Church of St. Michael.
In the aftermath of that terrible night there were two choices - revenge or forgiveness. Provost Howard’s response to the destruction of the Cathedral was one of immediate forgiveness and of rebuilding the Cathedral as a beacon of hope for the future, a message which continues to this day.
Coventry Cathedral will mark this year’s Blitz anniversary with a concert and lecture as part of Coventry Peace Festivall, an exhibition (Moonlight Sonata), and film screening and special services, The paintings in the exhibition will be on show behind the High Alter opposite the Lady Chapel throughout November 2024 during normal Cathedral opening hours
