As with the oils paintings Inchard I and Inchard II, this work of the settlement of Badcal is included here to provide a more conventional view of the crofting landscape that has formed the source and inspiration for the works in this part of the exhibition. In all of these works a deliberate attempt is made to flatten the picture plane and reduce the effect of perspective in order to heighten awareness of the marginal location of these settlements perched above the loch with the fields falling steeply to the shore.
